About Us

Steven Neri – Owner, Engineer, Craftsman

My journey begins in 1990 with an overwhelming desire to create with my hands.  Grateful for innate vision and talent I design and produce small furniture pieces for family and friends.  All this from within the confines of our family basement.  Restricted from utilizing the more aggressive power tools due to my age I would present my father with designs for my projects.  With his seasoned hands and guidance my pieces would begin fulfill casual orders for custom woodworking.  Some found its way into the trunk of young males driven to irritate the neighborhood with excessively loud speaker boxes and others would find their way onto the mantles and walls in homes offered up as gifts from one loved person to another.

Somewhere in the mid 90’s I would gain employment with the Advantage Woodshop building store fronts and displays.  Within two years I would take my skills to Liberty Woodcrafts.  Operating out of Orchard Park, NY I would travel across the country many times for weeks on end constructing restaurants and sports bars.  At times I was a solo act as the fabrication was happening at the shop I would prove myself on the job sight.  All of this at the young age of 20.

In 1997 my life would take a turn as an interest in engineering would become my focus.  Working for a small family owned company Hydraulic & Motor Controls I would gain insight into every aspect of small business operations.  I would also be given the opportunity to attend college while working.  I am forever grateful for this opportunity and in 2005 I would earn a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.  After 10 years at Hydraulic & Motor Controls I would spend the next 3 at Larson Consulting. Another small business specializing in systems integration.  Here we would design custom one-off test systems.  Comprised of both custom software and hardware solutions these systems test anything from electrical switches in children toys to sophisticated life-saving medical devices and equipment.

Once again in 2010 my lifes trajectory would be altered as a medical condition that limits my ability to function physically would swiftly onset.  Although from a dark place I would gain new perspective on life and determination to take back control.  The next few years proved to be difficult as experts in the field of medicine dialed in treatments to deal with my affliction, I would begin my formal journey as an entrepreneur and Neri Enterprises would begin to take shape. As my services are now afforded to anyone in any capacity I would find myself building custom kitchen and bath cabinetry out of my home shop in parallel with designing and fabricating the same industrial equipment I had worked with in my years at HMC and Larson Consulting.

Fast forward to 2016 when building a high end custom finished basement bar and entertainment room I would meet Doug Parker of Aurora Custom Cabinets.  While collaborating on this project Doug would suddenly and unexpectedly be thrust into the position of having to move on to the next stage of his life.  The woodshop would become available for purchase and on 8-1-2017 I would formally transition into ownership.  Continuing the 10 years old tradition of hand-crafted quality has been a privilege ever since.  As we turn the corner on 2019 and in the years to come Aurora Custom Cabinets is poised to be at the forefront of integrating todays ever changing technology into our kitchen and bath projects and beyond.  We’ve taken our flagship line of hand-crafted custom cabinetry to the next level by offering limitless options for materials selection, finishes fabrication techniques and design strategies that deliver every desire and improve the durability and aid in installation.  As a seasoned fabricator, finisher and installer I have every tool at my disposal to build the best cabinetry on the market.

We have also added the Yorktowne line of cabinetry to our product offerings.  This American made cabinetry series has three platforms from limited modifications of standard cabinetry to semi-custom options.  This allows our customers with varying budget requirements access to our unmatched design capabilities.  Included in this our ability to customize any cabinet order right out of our own custom design and fabrication department.
